FYSA Coaching Courses

Youth Modules - U6/8, U8/10 and U12 - age specific training with appropriate activities for youth players.  Each of the three modules takes about six hours.

E Certificate - entry level course to 11-a-side soccer for coaches of players that are 13 years old and up.  This course also serves a preparatory course and prerequisite for the D license course.  It takes about 18 hours for an E course and is usually spans Friday evening thru Sunday afternoon.

D License - highest state license course for coaches of players 13 and up.  Depending on results of testing a coach may receive a "National D" or "State D" designation.  A "National D" license is required to attend any National C license course after a one year wait.  There is a requirement of an E license before you may take a D license course (for waiver information click on "continue" below).  The D course takes about 36 hours and is usually held over two weekends.

Goalkeeping - Levels I, II, and III - three courses that focus on coaching the goalkeeper.  Coaches must start at Level-I and proceed in sequence.  The courses are six to eight hours.

The philosophy behind the FYSA Coaching Courses is to provide instruction to any individual regardless of his/her coaching or playing background.  The courses were designed to instruct the candidates in coaching and teaching methods which are appropriate, economical, and efficient.  Coaches should attend the level course that is most appropriate for the players they are coaching.

USSF Coaching Courses
Coaching certification begins at the state level with introductory courses, which cover the elementary principles of coaching and prepare interested coaches for the 36-hour “D” license course. All state licenses are non-expiring. Please contact your state association for information on these courses.

National “A”, “B” and “C” courses consist of seven days of instruction and two days of extensive oral, written, and practical examinations. The “A” License is valid for a period of four (4) years. “A” Licensed coaches must participate in the USSF Continuing Education Program (CEP) in order to keep their license current. The “B” and “C” Licenses are non-expiring licenses. Coaches with expired “A” Licenses must re-take the “A” course and pass the examinations in order to be awarded the “A” License.
