The Plantation Eagles U14 Girls squad advanced to the State Cup Final Four by beating the Sunrise Fire, 2-0, on Sunday, May 6, 2007. Caiti Zeytoonian and Erica Ershowsky tallied goals to lead the Eagles.
The Eagles earned their way into the Elite Eight game against Sunrise by defeating the Maitland Heat 2-1, on PKs, in the Sweet 16, on Saturday, April 5. Zeytoonian had the equalizer in the 65th minute of that contest.
In round one of the tournament, held on April 14th & 15th, in Naples, the Eagles shut out Central Brevard, Naples Youth Soccer and West Pasco FC, all by identical 1-0 finals. Zeytoonian scored the game winning goals vs. Central Brevard and West Pasco, while Brianna Stampler found the back of the net to put down Naples.
The Eagles join the 2006 U13 State Champion, Team Boca White, and the runner-up, Ponte Vedra Storm, along with Melbourne Beach Tsunami, in the 2007 Final Four at Fort Myers, on May 19-20, 2007.
Plantation opens with a game vs. Melbourne on Saturday, while Team Boca takes on Ponte Vedra in a rematch of last year’s final. The two winners will play on Sunday for the State crown and the right to advance and represent Florida at the Southern Regional Championships, to be held in Oklahoma City, OK, June 28 – July 4, 2007.
